_calculated risks brings the Teenage Engineering Pocket Operator, “Rhythm” to your DAW with 14 one-shot drums samples and 400 drum loops. The Pocket Operator series began with the PO-12 Rhythm, so we thought we’d start there with this first release in a series of Pocket Operator packs. The Pocket Operators are known for being lo-fi digital wonders that bring simplicity and performance to anyone with a finger. The PO-12 is a drum machine with a parameter lockable sequencer, and an all around FX mangler. Like all of these pocket-sized sounds, the PO-12 is pure and RAW digital everything, from the synth engines, samples, and the real time FX, to the actual converters - it doesn’t get much more economical sounding than than Pocket Operators. The PO-12 has 16 voices consisting of 14 drum sounds, 1 synth, and 1 bass sound. We’ve focused on the 14 drum sounds only for this release. We captured the output of the PO-12 as directly to to digital as possible, with no additional processing done. We also created an Ableton Drum Rack with the 14 one-shot samples, and added some macro controls and effects reminiscent of the PO-12’s built-in effects. Make your own crunchy beats! We believe that the Pocket Operators are best used as performance devices, so we programmed 50 different patterns as drum loops. We also captured 7 different Pocket Operator effects as loop variations for each pattern. 400 loops later, we had a collection of some of our most eclectic drum loops to date. There’s a very satisfying push and pull between control and total chaos when you use these little machines, and so, “calculated risks” felt like the perfect name. Protect your pockets and grab this pack that’s even cheaper than the actual hardware. • 14 one-shot drum samples for use in any software or hardware. _saturated swords drenches you in the pure analog fluff and grit of Sonic Farm’s sought after, “Xcalibur” preamplifier. 25 guitar electric guitar loops using a handful of stomp boxes and Xcalibur’s merciless tones are now ready to be wielded. No guitar amps or microphones were used in the making of these loops. We went direct to digital exclusively through the Sonic Farm, Xcalibur JC Saturation preamplifier. We freaked things out as usual with some of our most loved guitar pedals, but the distortion is pure Xcalibur. Boris from Sonic Farm has been a friend of ours for some time now, so he was kind enough to drop off a demo unit with us a while back. Naturally, while we had it in our studios, we did what we do best with it - we made samples! This preamp gave us everything from the rarest richness to the the freakiest fuzz. Not everyone can afford a preamp of this quality, so being able to capture its essence in guitar loop form is the next best thing for now. Mythical swords and magical powers is just what we do. _reel flamingos means flamenco-inspired guitar loops captured on a mediocre analog tape machine, with an ambient Ableton instrument that sets a big mood. Watch a walkthrough of what's inside here: https://youtu.be/L6LNgj8JmYY We're calling it flamingos because it's not really flamenco. It's flamenco for tourists of the genre, but super useful for more "genreless" productions. When we say mediocre, we mean it in the best way possible. The guitar is new, and totally hand-made in Mexico, but a 1/4" Fostex 8-track (yes, 1/4" 8-track) machine in questionable condition was used to impart a very overblown vintage tape aesthetic to the samples. We pushed the guitar really hard to tape with no noise reduction options, but hiss, and warm rippling saturation was just the beginning. We recorded the guitar in stereo, but on the outside tracks, 1+8 to degrade the sound and stereo phase even further in just the right way. On the way to tape, we sauced things up properly, and used vintage Beyerdynamic M160 ribbon mics, Neve preamps, and Pultec EQs in our marinade. There's also a bonus Ableton instrument that plays the most exquisitely cinematic and ambient chorded tones and textures. Flamenco feels forever. This "quality" and sound might not be for everyone, but it's really for those that appreciate tape a little too much! Flamenco fusion or fission? Tú decides. • 25 flamenco guitar loops. (150MB) • 1 Ableton Live 11 Suite session. • 1 Ableton 11 Suite ambient instrument. • 96k/24bit .wav sources. • 100% Royalty-Free. • Designed in Vancouver, Canada by Subsocial Studios.
