_nasty box is a very HIFI audio plugin of a very LOFI little speaker. Make anything sound like a nasty little speaker with this VST / AU plugin for Mac or Windows.
Nasty Box is ready to instantly give you that little broken speaker sound. You won’t find this sound anywhere else, because there’s only one! You may have never needed a little box that’s so nasty, but you’re here now and you can’t turn back.
The Nasty Box hardware was designed to be terrible, or dare we say, nasty. The main woofer is a vintage clock radio speaker. It lacks both high and low frequencies just like little woofers do. The 4 tweeters were physically stuffed with random things like sand, pieces of plastic, glue, and dirt, so they have a very unpredictable way of reproducing higher frequencies. The internal amplifiers are starved of energy, so they distort quickly and have a very raw dynamic range profile. The box is made of plastic, and uses no internal damping. It's just a bad little box.
The plugin captures every crack, buzz, and frequency-starved quirk of a very crappy little amp and speakers. It's probably using too much CPU for something that sounds so bad, but we love it. Both the woofer and tweeters are unique multistate models created at increasing levels and intensities. The actual Nasty Box has a different amplifier for the woofers and tweeters. Blend them together, or solo the tweeters for different effects.
We used over 800 hours of source audio and far too many computers to model Nasty Box with. It probably wasn’t worth it, and we should have modelled something worthwhile We did no such thing. If you’re still reading this, you nasty!
